A Brief History of the Jaguar F-TYPE
Manufactured by Jaguar Land Rover under the Jaguar Cars brand, the F-TYPE rolled off factory floors in 2013. It is essentially the successor to the Jaguar E-TYPE, a roadster sports car that Jaguar produced from 1961 to 1974. People first saw the first F-TYPE at a car show in Paris in 2012. Excitement abounded, as it was Jaguar's first new two-door sports car in half a century.
Early on in its history, the F-TYPE gained recognition by winning World Car Design of the Year. It produced 488 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. This same engine got a bump in 2014 when it went into the Project 7 trim. It then increased to 575 horsepower and an incredible 700 pound-feet of torque. This engine is still the standard in this trim.
The F-TYPE SVR was unveiled in 2016 to great acclaim. Notably, this model boasted phenomenal acceleration and power. It can get up to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and tops out at 200 mph. It made 567 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The SVR was made until 2020, though you can still shop for this used model.
In 2018, Jaguar introduced the F-TYPE SVR GT4, which has remained in production. This race car version was made for British championship racing events. A year later, the F-TYPE underwent its first major facelift. At this time, some significant exterior changes occurred. First, it gained more slender LED headlamps along with 20-inch wheels. New paint colors were also introduced at this time. Moreover, it now had a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment system.
The year 2019 also saw the introduction of four new trims: the P300, the P380, the P450, and the R P575. The latter has a supercharged V-8 engine that accelerates to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. This generation of F-TYPE vehicles improved its sound vibration insulation. In addition, special edition trims, the 400 Sport and Project 7, came out after the 2019 facelift. These models come with an array of features and unique badging. The 400 Sport was available as either a convertible or a coupe.
